Lookout Point sold to BBC Studios

Lookout Point cements long-standing relationship with BBC Studios, who have increased their shareholding to 100%

Lookout Point: acclaimed British production studio focusing on high-end scripted drama

London-based Lookout Point has achieved rapid growth in recent years, and now employs a 25-strong team working across a wealth of drama titles.

Lookout Point’s credits include Andrew Davies’ critically acclaimed adaptation of War and Peace for BBC One, five seasons of Ripper Street for the BBC and Amazon, and Tom Stoppard’s adaptation of Ford Madox Ford’s Parade’s End, starring Benedict Cumberbatch.

Currently in production is Mike Bartlett’s bold and provocative newspaper drama Press with BBC Studios and Deep Indigo for BBC One, and Andrew Davies’ adaptation of Victor Hugo’s 19th century classic Les Misérables with BBC Studios and Masterpiece, also for BBC One. Other upcoming projects include Sally Wainwright’s Gentleman Jack for BBC One and HBO which is currently in production, and an adaptation of Vikram Seth’s masterpiece A Suitable Boy, also for BBC One.

BBC Studios acquire remaining 51% of equity in Lookout Point

BBC Studios and Lookout Point have cemented their longstanding relationship through this transaction, with BBC Studios increasing its shareholding in the company to 100% in line with the option agreed in 2016. This latest step between the two companies follows a successful eight year relationship that began as a distribution deal in 2010. This was followed by a series of equity stakes by BBC Studios, then BBC Worldwide, from 35% to 49% in 2016.

Lookout Point will become an independent scripted studio within BBC Studios. It will continue to be led by joint CEOs, Simon Vaughan and Faith Penhale, and will operate from its own offices, maintain its own creative and cultural identity and continue to work with a wide range of leading platforms and broadcasters globally.

Lookout Point, which has long been recognised as a market leader in global TV co-financing and co-production will continue to manage its own sales and marketing activity in partnership with BBC Studios.
