"We have now worked with Stella EOC for more than five years, on transactions ranging across IT and telecoms. All have been cross-border and usually cross-continent, and some have been highly complex. They always present us with imaginative and credible options, and follow through with execution skills that are truly exceptional."

Turning an address book application into a social network

ZYB is a privately-owned company that started as an online mobile content back-up specialist for data such as contacts and calendars, allowing users to keep their data up-to-date across phones and mobile devices.

The company also leverages its technology to create a social network that enables users to send messages and images from their PC to multiple mobile devices in their mobile community, as well as taking advantage of the functionality of an instant messaging service.

ZYB has led the development of “the social phonebook” and attracted attention from major mobile technology and internet companies worldwide.

Vodafone goes social, ZYB goes global

In 2008, Vodafone acquired ZYB - a landmark transaction in the social network space which has attracted considerable attention internationally.

This sale was another innovative transaction in the internet and telecoms area successfully completed by Stella EOC, who advised the selling shareholders of ZYB and ran a process targeting the world’s largest internet and mobile companies as buyers of this unique technology product.

The price per registered user paid by Vodafone for ZYB was c. 25-50 times greater than the corresponding measure in the acquisition of address-book site Plaxo by Comcast in the same week, according to figures given by commentators.

The deal also marked another highly successful exit for sole venture capital investor Nordic Venture Partners, who first invested in ZYB in October 2006.

Stella EOC acted as sole advisor to the sellers.
