TV 2 is Norway's largest commercial electronic media house with a major focus on news, sports and entertainment.
In 2010, the company had its most profitable annual results and the group's various TV channels had a viewing share of the Norwegian market of 26.7% with the drama series “Dag” as a major audience success with 509,000 viewers for its premiere.
The company is headquartered in Bergen and operates several premium TV channels including its premium pay TV sport channel which among other sports rights holds the English Premier League.
A strategic leap towards more TV in Egmont’s business
In January 2012, TV 2 announced that Egmont, the co-founder and part-owner of TV 2 for more than 20 years, had acquired the remaining 50% stake in the business.
Egmont, a leading Nordic media group headquartered in Copenhagen publishes media in more than 30 countries, has 6,500 employees and generates revenue amounting to EUR 1.4 billion.
Egmont comprises Scandinavia's largest film company, Norway's largest magazine publisher, book publisher and commercial TV broadcaster as well as the largest children's publishers in Scandinavia, Germany, Poland and Russia.
TV is a key element of Egmont’s strategy and the acquisition helps the company to make a strategic leap towards more TV and live pictures in the business.
